South Kitsap Soccer Club's very own VP of Rec, Nicky Martin, has put together some information on how to become a coach for our Rec program. Please read on for some insight on what the club is looking for!
ANYONE CAN COACH! Enthusiastic and positive volunteers are needed each season to coach our Rec teams.
Coaching a team of youngsters can be a tremendously rewarding experience, giving you the opportunity to help young players grow and learn, face challenges and experience success.
No prior coaching experience is necessary - as one of our coaches, you will be provided resources and support to help you succeed.
If you have a child playing in our league, you can coach their team!
All coaches must successfully complete the Sudden Cardiac Arrest (30 minutes), Concussion (30 minutes), SafeSport trainings and certifications (120 minutes), and a Washington State background check.
SKSC Recreational League Coaching Overview
Coach a team of boys or girls, ages 5-18yrs
Coach practices 1 or 2 weekday evenings per week for no more than 1 hour in duration
Coach games on Saturdays from September (begin following Labor Day weekend) through mid-November
Teach players soccer fundamentals
Emphasize sportsmanship, fair play, and full participation
Provide a safe and fun environment for the players
Learn and follow all league rules, policies, and procedures
Give each player equal playing time
Put the feelings of the players ahead of the coach’s desire to win
Create a positive, mastery-oriented team culture
Communicate effectively with parents and coaches as needed
Qualifications
Successfully pass a Washington State Background Check Complete the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Online Training (30 minutes)
Complete the Concussion Awareness Online Training (30 minutes)
Complete the SafeSport Online Training and Certification (120 minutes)
Attend pre-season coach’s orientation meeting with the VP and Coaching Director(s)
Be enthusiastic, organized, and dependable
Prioritize positive experiences for players over winning
Be patient, especially with players
Have a working knowledge of soccer
Be open to suggestions and advisement from SKSC Board and Coaching Director(s)
