BASIC HANDLING TECHNIQUES
There are four different handling techniques used for specific situations:

Basket catch
Balls played along the ground or up to mid-trunk, allowing the keeper to get behind the ball.

Contour catch
Balls played at midtrunk or higher, allowing the keeper to get squarely behind the ball.

High contour catch
Balls (crosses) that can be caught above challenging opponents. The same technique
as the contour catch, but with extended or nearly extended arms so to catch above any field player's challenge.

Side contour catch

Balls that are slightly to the side, preventing the keeper from getting squarely behind the shot. This is again the same as the contour catch, but turned on its side. The head, hands and ball come together to secure the catch.

WHICH TO USE...BASKET CATCH VS A CONTOUR CATCH?
When the ball is going to hit your forearms first, use the basket catch.
When the ball is going to hit your body first, use the contour catch.
