This year, as in past, we have received many requests for greater referee coverage in all age brackets. Our goal is to cover more of our games with referees. To
train the referees we have to a higher level as well. We need to help ourselves in this effort. We ask the help of our Jr. High and High School students, parents, neighbors and friends.
The referees we see at games are paid modestly for their work. These referees are not career refs, but youth and adults like those in all of our
families. We need more referees and many of us may know someone that can fill this vital, important role. Refereeing a few games can have a meaningful impact for our youth and improve our
sport.
There are clinics offered throughout the year posted on the WSYSA site. Most classes are one day or evening and the club re-reimburses the cost of the training
upon completion. Youth 12 and up are eligible and it is a great first job. Refs are paid for their work and can choose the games that best suit their schedule. Other incentives will also be
offered.
The benefit to our club is twofold: We as parents or older siblings can watch our friends and family play soccer and get paid in doing so. The larger benefit is
that, once trained, you can provide a quality soccer experience to a young team. Our young players need guidance towards playing within the rules and keep the game safe. The classes will be posted on the WSYSA site and we are planning on holding at least one if not two classes, right here in Kitsap. The class depends on
confirmed registrations, so let us know if you are interested. There are referee mentors and people to help you with your first game. Please contact our VP of Comp, Jason Pinard at CoachPinard@gmail.com with questions or
comments.
